We keep an apiary of about 20 hives, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.peacecrops.net\/CSA\/?page_id=1882\">sell local honey<\/a> and hive products directly to customers or at the farmers&#8217; markets in Manzanita and Tillamook. Local honey is widely known for its healing and anti-allergy properties, and since it&#8217;s all harvested right here in the Nehalem River valley, can be especially beneficial to people living in northern Tillamook County.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.PeaceCrops.net\/CSA\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/buzzers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-954\" src=\"http:\/\/www.PeaceCrops.net\/CSA\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/buzzers.jpg\" alt=\"buzzers\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.PeaceCrops.net\/CSA\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/buzzers.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.PeaceCrops.net\/CSA\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/buzzers-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a>In addition to multifloral honey, we often have hive products like beeswax candles and lip balm. One of our specialities is Bamboo Honey: a dark, rich honey that comes from <em>Fallopia japonica<\/em>, or Japanese Knotweed. Isn&#8217;t it nice to know that something good can come from this invasive species?<\/p>\n<p>Jim has served as\u00a0the vice president of the Tillamook Beekeepers and as a mentor\u00a0in the <a href=\"http:\/\/extension.oregonstate.edu\/mb\/\">OSU Master Beekeeper<\/a> program. He is \u00a0available to speak to school and community groups, and can help with other bee-related issues like swarm collection, feral hive removal, and so forth.
